Curtis Howell began piano lessons at the age of eight, and by the age of twenty-three completed both his ARCT’s (Performance and Teaching) in Piano from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. He studied harpsichord and piano at UVic under Eric Schwandt and Bruce Vogt. In 1999, he attained a Bachelor’s of Education from UVic majoring in Music, graduating with Distinction.

He began teaching piano at the age of sixteen, with his first Guinea pigs being his siblings. Since then, Curtis has successfully taught all levels of Classical piano with several students going on to successful careers in music. He maintains a very active studio with students working in classical, contemporary, and jazz idioms.

Curtis was playing piano for church and other public events by the age of twelve. He has accompanied soloists and ensembles at amateur through to professional levels throughout BC. Being a “bloom where you are planted” kind of guy, he tries to support as many local musical efforts as possible, playing at many local restaurants and events (with many local musicians) over the past 20 years. He has also been principal harpsichordist for the Kamloops Brandenburg Orchestra since its inception under the direction of Cvetozar Vutev. Further partners in crime...
